Acupuncture
Acupuncture is part of the system of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) which has a unique method of diagnosing problems. Although your symptoms are still the same, TCM sees things differently from Western Medicine because it incorporates the idea of Qi, or energy. This is the energy you get once your food is broken down by your body.
As well as finding out about your specific issue(s), I also ask about your general well-being and take your pulse and look at your tongue. This allows me to build up a picture of what is going on and make sense of a patient’s seemingly un-related problems.
Coming to me is similar in some ways to seeing your GP in that I will take a case history and make my diagnosis. It differs in that we have more time and that I do not prescribe pills but will use needles for treatment.
Acupuncture involves inserting tiny needles or pins into very precise points on the body. This should neither hurt nor be frightening. In fact, most people find the treatment very relaxing and often fall asleep! I explain everything I do and will answer any questions you have. Sometimes Chinese Medicine can sound a bit complex but the Chinese had a simple way of looking at things and it makes a lot of sense when explained. Acupuncture is not only a very practical method of treatment but also involves lifestyle and dietary advice.
